The viral campaign for "Pacific Rim" is officially underway, and today it's debuted two new blueprints for the giant robotic Jaegers. These reveal the designs for Jaegers in Russia and Japan, proving that this movie is going to be a worldwide war against the giant Kaiju monsters.
It's interesting and exciting that the two blueprints show very different versions of the Jaegers. It seems as though we shouldn't expect the human-controlled robots to have a uniform design, which is something that director Guillermo del Toro must be geeking out over. That man never seems to be happier than when he's designing some epic creature for us to ooh and ahh over.
This viral campaign will likely continue to reveal exciting new tidbits about the upcoming "Pacific Rim." The movie isn't coming out until July 12, but thus far we know little to nothing about the film. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kinkuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day and focuses on the human/Jaeger war against the Kaiju, but beyond that we're at a loss.
A "Pacific Rim" trailer is expected to arrive before "The Hobbit," but yesterday the viral campaign revealed a countdown that is slated to expire on December 12. Our guess is that the trailer will appear online two days before it comes out in theaters.
The official plot synopsis for "Pacific Rim" reveals, "When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) -- who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse."
