P!nk's new album The Truth About Love dropped today, marking over 17 years since the pop rebel first hit the scene. That's almost as many years as Justin Bieber has been alive! Still, the "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" singer is as youthful and as ever -- her acrobatic performances at the 2010 and 2012 VMAs were the kinda stuff Olympic gymnasts can only dream about!
Aside from killer vocals, daring performances, and looking spectacular in a spandex bodysuit (NOT easy to do), she has always used her voice to highlight real issues on her albums -- and The Truth About Love was no exception. On "Are We All We Are," P!nk is on a mission to start an uprising of sorts. "Cut to now, holy wow. When did everything become such a hell of a mess?" She chants, "We are the people that you'll never get the best of, not forget the rest of. We've got our fill, we've had enough, we've had it up here!" So OWS of her, eh. + F**king Perfect
Pink didn't wanna beat around the bush with this one! In her 2011 VMA Best Video With A Message nominated video for "F**cking Perfect," Pink reminds listeners that everyone is perfect in their own way. The video addresses issues of bulling, depression, and cutting, and in a personal message on her website she wrote, "Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us. (the problem being alienation and depression. The symptoms cutting and suicide). I personally don't know a single person who doesn't know at least two of these victims personally." She continued, "There are good people in this world that are open-minded, and loving. There are those that accept us with all of our flaws. I do that with my fans/friends, and I will do that with my child, whoever they decide to be."
+ Sing
"Sing" is a collaboration between Pink, Madonna, Shakira, and 20 other well-known female performers on Annie Lennox's 2007 "Songs of Mass Destruction" album. It is a charity record, aimed at raising funds and awareness for South Africa's HIV/AIDS Treatment Action Campaign.
+ Family Portrait
When "Family Portrait" came out in 2001, it became an unofficial anthem for kids in families going through rough times. It happened to come out when my family was splitting up, and made me feel like I wasn't alone in wondering what went wrong and whether we'd ever be a family again.
+ Dear Mr. President
Released in 2006 when President George W. Bush was in office, Pink sings "Dear Mr. President" about holding governments accountable for the happiness of their people. She also speaks to women's and gay rights with the lyrics, "What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?"
