With all the recent talk on healthcare, the economy, and Nicki Minaj it's easy to forget that the country faces tons of other issues that the future president and Congress will have lots of sway over. This week, we present immigration.
Conflicts over immigrant identification, the right to work, and access to education have kept the issue at a slow burn even as other political fights grab the headlines. And it's very likely that these issues impact somebody you know. There are 26.3 million documented and undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Undocumented immigrants make up over 5% of the American workforce. 6.8% of public school students have undocumented parents. Immigrants – both with and without documents – are part of the fabric of society.
As GOOD shows in their new infographic, there have been plenty of attempts at straightening out our immigration system. Unfortunately, our politicians' clashing opinions on the issue have kept most attempts at reform from making it out of Congress to the president's desk.
