The roommates may have left St. Thomas, but the lessons they taught us are everlasting! From self-harm to drug addiction, here's a recap of the real issues we watched on this season of "Real World":
+ Self-Love >>>>>> Self-Harm
This season, we saw Robb struggle with self-harm. During a moment of frustration, he punched himself in the face, and at one point even asked roommie Brandon to hurt him, too. Brandon, who struggled with similar issues in the past, offered his support to Robb. If you or someone you know struggles with any form of self-harm and you're not sure how to help out, call The National Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK or visit mtvU's Half Of Us.
+ Open Relationships Aren't Easy
This season, we watched "couples" Robb and Marie and Trey and Laura deal with the drama and confusion of being in open relationships. I prefer my relationships closed, thank you very much, but if you are into sharing your candy, please make sure it comes in a wrapper. Learn more about sexual health with MTV's It's Your (Sex) Life.
+ Don't Text And Drive
According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting drivers are 23 times more likely to get into car accidents. Cast members Marie, Swift, and Toya recorded a PSA to let you know that no text, or Tweet, or incessant shuffling between two equally awesome Instagram filters (which one to choooooose?!) is worth risking your life for.
+ Stay Strong, Say No To Drugs
Drug and alcohol addiction aren't easily remedied, and can be a struggle even after months of sobriety. Unfortunately, Brandon left the house after failing a drug test. Although some of the roommates supported Brandon's quest for sobriety, it takes a lot more than friendship to kick an addiction. Most cases of substance abuse and dependency require the help of a licensed professional; learn more at Half of Us.
The "Real World St. Thomas" may be over, but new episodes of "The Challenge" start tonight, and we bet there will be plenttttty of lessons to learn from that! Ya ready?!
