Aung San Suu Kyi -- peace activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner and now Congressional Gold Medal winner -- has officially landed in the United States for the first time in 20 years! Aung has emerged as one of the most impactful political prisoners and even was named mtvU's Woman Of The Year last year. Today, you have a chance to interact with her on Facebook!
The icon was held under house arrest for nearly TWO decades until being released in 2010 -- for opposing military rule! President Obama expressed his excitement to meet Aung later today saying, "It provides another opportunity to reaffirm our long-standing support for her struggle and the struggle of many others toward democratic, just and transparent governance in Burma."
Along with meeting with President Obama, Aung will be joining young activists at an Amnesty International town hall meeting in D.C to help inspire a new generation of advocates. You can even ask the icon some questions! Yep, she will be taking questions prior to the event! The exciting meeting is also going to be live-streamed on Amnesty's Facebook page for all of us to watch today at 11:30am ET. You do NOT want to miss this!
