"The Cabin in the Woods" deserves the fan approval it got back in April when it opened in theaters for many reasons, but chief among them may be knowing its audience and giving them exactly what they want. A perfect example of that relationship is the set-up and execution of the merman, one of the many creatures at the heart of "The Cabin in the Woods."

Fortunately for us, that magical mythical creature is at the center of this exclusive clip from the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of "Cabin in the Woods."

The behind-the-scenes clip takes a look at the special effects work that went into making the merman and his bloody blowhole a reality. The FX team used detailed practical effects to make the demise of Bradley Whitford's character all the more hilarious.

Also, if you can't appreciate the sheer amount of blood that comes out of the blowhole, this is not the movie for you.

"The Cabin in the Woods" hits Blu-ray and DVD September 18.
