Another day, another update about the seemingly pie-in-the-sky potential of the "Friday Night Lights" movie. Here's the thing, everyone keeps saying they're on board if the right idea comes along, so what's the holdup?

"It's on [showrunner] Jason Katims," director Peter Berg told MTV News during the press day for his upcoming blockbuster "Battleship." "If you're a fan of 'Friday Night Lights,' write Jason Katims an email at 'Parenthood.' Be like, 'Yo Jason, we love "Parenthood," but let's get the "Friday Night Lights" script done.'"

Berg insisted that everyone really is interested, but they need Katims to finish the script so they can get the production ball rolling.

"Yeah, it's on him. He's a genius. Jason Katims is the force behind [it], I kept 'Friday Night Lights' up and running, Jason Katims carried that show," Berg said. "He's the man."

Speaking to the continued enthusiasm from his cast members, Berg admitted that he stays in touch with his actors Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Tylor Kitsch to make sure they know he's serious about moving forward.

"We check in with them and they just laugh and say, 'It will never happen,' and we say 'Watch.' And Kitsch over there we talk to him too."

He also re-emphasized the fact that the plot is based on Washington State coach Mike Leach, who Berg has said is one of his heroes.

"[Katims] has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case," he said. "He's now at Washington State getting ready for what I think will be a great redemption story."
