This Friday the Earth's Mightiest Heroes (that's "The Avengers" for ya, if you're not a big comic book fan) will be hitting theaters and the Marvel movie is posed to be a mega blockbuster. While most of us haven't seen the film yet, on Saturday it screened as the final film at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, dedicated the screening to real heroes, not fictional ones.
The Tribeca Film Festival began in 2002 and was created in response to the September 11 attacks. Robert DeNiro and his fellow co-founders Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff wanted to establish a festival to help revitalize lower Manhattan. So isn't it fitting that Robert Downey Jr. dedicated this screening to none other than the first responders? First responders are the policemen, firemen and armed forces who were first on the scene during the 9/11 attacks.
A number of the first responders were sitting there in the audience. Before the movie got rolling, Robert told them they were the real heroes and added, "We love you."
It sounds as if the audience was touched by what he said, and that the movie was also a big hit with everyone there – first responders and actors from the film. I KNOW, imagine sitting between Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo?! We love Robert's special shout out to the first responders 'cause heroes are out there every single day, making a difference. #Awwwww #Truth
