While most of us spent New Year's Day under covers or feeling sorry for ourselves at work, "Jersey Shore" cast member Vinny Guadagnino was running through ice-cold water for charity. Now that's one way to cure a hangover start the year off on a good note!
Vinny attended the Polar Bear Plunge in New York, where participants raised money for Camp Sunshine -- a camp in Maine for kids with life-threatening illnesses. This is the second year in a row he's braved the icy Atlantic on New Year's Day. Last year, he took the plunge with his mom!
But don't worry. If the thought of going swimming in the dead of winter sends chills down your spine, there are tons of other, warmer ways to give back to Camp Sunshine. If a friend or friend-of-a-friend is suffering from a life-threatening illness, tell them about it! You can also join the 2,000 people aged 6 to 80 who volunteer at the camp every year. "I am so glad I went," says one volunteer. "The Camp…is by far the best thing that I have seen, heard of, or been a part of…The friendships I have made, and the impact that these kids had on me is never ending."
