The members of Brit boy band One Direction may be barely legal, but that doesn't mean they don't care about the elderly. They recently auctioned off an autographed tee to raise nearly $2,000 for the British Alzheimer's Society -- a care and research organization for those suffering from Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
The boys got behind the cause because band-member Louis Tomlinsin's girlfriend's grandfather is currently battling dementia. (Talk about a great boyfriend!) Dementia is a general term for any loss of mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that specifically causes memory loss; in its final stages, some people even forget who and where they are!
One Direction aren't the first celebs to shine a light on Alzheimer's. Bradley Cooper, Seth Rogen, and tons of other big names have lent their voices and personal stories to the Alzheimer's Association. There is still no known cure for Alzheimer's, but the more we speak up, the closer we'll get to finding one! Take action below to learn more about Alzheimer's.
