Sorry haters, but putting a violent spin on sugar-sweet fairytales is one trend Hollywood isn't letting go of anytime soon.
The live-action reboot concept made a splash again last summer with "Snow White and the Huntsman," and kicking off this year's list of anticipated childhood-favorites-turned-badass-action-movies is "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," which just debuted a new red band trailer on Collider. So brace yourself for plenty of ridiculous blood, gore and sex—all of which aren't suitable for work, obviously.
Check out the new NSFW trailer after the jump!
Narrated by Jeremy Renner's Hansel, the preview gives us a better idea of the leather-donning duo's backstory before they became bounty hunters looking to spill witch blood. NSFW content aside, we get a taste of the movie's somewhat lighthearted tone in Hansel and Gretel's (Gemma Arterton) one-liners, which ease the ridiculous nature of the whole "killing witches for a living" thing. And speaking of those witches, along with seeing them get chopped up into pieces in mid-air, we also catch them on high-speed broomsticks and wearing costumes that may or may not have been recycled from "The Matrix."
The movie takes place 15 years after Hansel and Gretel experience a traumatic incident at the infamous gingerbread house, after which the brother-sister team dedicate their lives to becoming witch-slaying bounty hunters. Eventually, the two are recruited to save the town from an evil sorceress (Jansen), who is devising a plot to sacrifice local children in an upcoming ritual.
"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" also stars Peter Stormare, Famke Janssen, Thomas Mann and Zoe Bell, and opens wide on January 25, 2013.
