It's been a very special year for the James Bond franchise. 007 turned 50 years old, "Skyfall" made over $1 billion and now the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed it's honoring our favorite British secret agent with a special tribute at the 85th Academy Awards.

The Academy has announced the news in a press release. Thus far no details have been revealed about what the tribute will be beyond the fact it will involve "a special sequence."

"We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "Starting with 'Dr. No' back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon."

Is it too much to hope that the tribute will include the six men who have played James Bond? Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are all alive and kicking, and the Academy Awards is a prestigious enough event that all the actors might deign to appear. Keep your fingers crossed, because in our honest opinion that would be the best way to honor the series.

The nominees for this year's Oscars will be announced on January 10. The Academy Awards are being held on February 24.
