Lots of people looove watching Shark Week, and celebs like Ian Somerhalder, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ke$ha looove helping the sharks even more. Here are some ways you can join and help great whites, hammerheads and all the other sharks in the ocean!
+ Oceana
Check out Oceana for different ways you can help sharks. One way is to sign a petition asking for the protection of great whites. Great whites are probably the most famous kind of sharks — in part thanks to their portrayal in "Jaws" — but they're actually in danger of extinction. There might be as little as just a few hundred adults left on the West Coast of the U.S.
+ Humane Society International
Ian, Leonardo and Ke$ha have all spoken out against shark finning. Sharks are caught, their fins are cut off (usually for soup) and they are thrown back into the ocean to die. The Humane Society International has a list of ways you can combat this awful practice.
+ Wildlife Conservation Society
The Wildlife Conservation Society is trying to see how much money it can earn for sharks in 24 hours. The money will be used to protect sharks around the globe, and there's not much time to pitch in!
+ Conservation International
Conservation International has set up a graphic about sharks you can share on FB. It's got deets on just how important sharks are for the ecosystem, and with a click you can be spreading awareness on this important issue. Sharks have been around for millions of years, and it's vital that we make sure they stay around.
