The day July turned to August, I saw countless sad Tweets about how summer is almost over. Seriously, guys? We still have a whole MONTH left of summer, at least! Which leaves us with plenty of time to do these awesome, good karma-filled summertime activities...
+ Walk/Run For A Cause
Summertime wasn't made so you could sit inside all day while Snapchatting, G-chatting, Facebook chatti--GEEZ! Ya think we've got enough ways to chat in 2013?! Join a local charity marathon for a cause you care about, or -- if nothing's happening in your area -- grab some friends make it happen yourself! If you prefer fun over runs, check out Color Run and Undie Run for awesome marathon alternatives.
+ Charity Pool Party
Let's be honest. Summertime and party time go hand-in-hand. Host a party at your own or a friend's place, and ask for charitable donations at the door. Schools supplies, canned goods, or -- better yet -- clothes. Ask your friends to come in clothes they're willing to give away, and make them strip down to their swimsuits at the door. The good karma will totally trump your hangover.
+ Beach/Park Cleanup
Put a spin on your usual beach or park cleanup by holding a celebratory bonfire or BBQ immediately afterwards. Just don't forget the eco-friendly cups, plates, and utensils!
+ Clothing Swap
It's almost time to whip out your fall wardrobe! If you're running low on cash, or just prefer not to spend yours on new clothes, hold a clothing exchange. Get together with friends, ask everyone to bring a pile of clothes they're willing to part with, swap with each other, then donate any leftovers to a local homeless shelter. This way, everybody gets a new wardrobe!
Does your school have a problem with bullying? Eco unfriendliness? Unhealthy dining options? Use you social media superpowers to start a positive movement amongst students before the next school year starts. Create a hashtag that incorporates your school name or mascot and the cause you care about (for example, "#bullyfreeCHS"), and get everybody Tweeting and talking about it until a change is made!
