Decades ago, when people were upset about the state of the world, they marched, and rallied, and wrote epic protest songs. Today, we go on 2 a.m. Twitter rants. The ONE Campaign, co-founded by Bono, is turning hipsters to hippies this week with the launch of agit8 -- a musical movement designed to revive old protest songs and motivate people and politicians to take action against global poverty.

Agit8 was created as a precursor to next week's G8 summit in Northern Ireland, where global leaders will discuss how to solve the world's greatest problems. Agit8 recruited over 100 artists, including U2, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Ed Sheeran, to release videos of themselves singing well-known protest songs. Sheeran recorded a cover of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War," while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis re-recorded their ode to same-sex marriage, "Same Love."

"I was talking to a group of kids and asked, 'Who here knows Bob Dylan's Masters of War?' No one," says ONE CEO Jeff Davidoff. "Then I asked, 'Who here follows Ed Sheeran on Twitter?' All hands shot up. ... We'll use amazing protest songs performed by contemporary artists to get people to take action." With over 1 billion people in the world living without food, shelter, or safety, it's time to do more than just Tweet about it!
