Breaking up sucks, but Katy Perry knows how to deal with the post-breakup blues. After her split with John Mayer, this "Firework" hooked up with UNICEF to help kids in Madagascar.

In Madagascar, about three out of four kids are living in poverty, and just three out of ten kids get through school. It sounds like Katy was busy there: she started out her trip by going to a child protection center, then she got to hang with some preschool kids at a UNICEF-supported preschool. She even got to join in on teaching the kids the importance of hygiene by washing her hands with them. After this she was able to visit a school being supported by UNICEF, and learned about how kids and teachers would walk 45 minutes just to reach the building.

Next up was the nutrition center. One out of two kids in Madagascar is malnourished, and the center is there to teach parents about food and how to keep kids (and themselves) healthy. You can understand why seeing all of this firsthand would be such a life-changer for Katy. "In less than one week here in Madagascar, I went from crowded city slums to the most remote villages and my eyes were opened wide by the incredible need for a healthy life -- nutrition, sanitation, and protection against rape and abuse -- which UNICEF is stepping in to help provide," she said.

Less than one week can change a person's life, and by helping out UNICEF, you can help change children's lives in Madagascar and other countries around the world.
