The Sundance Film Festival is winding down, and what better way to end my trip by covering the "A.C.O.D" premiere -- one of my fave nights of the entire festival! Journalists prepped in a frenzy, publicists ran around, and the energy in the room as we waited for the phenomenal cast (Jessica Alba! Amy Poehler! Jane Lynch! Adam Scott!) was immense. And I was in the middle of it.
There was so much I wanted to ask them about: Jessica's new book, her fab business The Honest Company, Amy's recent trip to Haiti... Oh, and their new film too, of course.
"A.C.O.D" (Adult Children of Divorce) is a comedy, directed by Stuart Zicherman, that focuses on relationships between families and divorced parents. According to the film, 1 in 2 families will struggle through divorce. Yikes! Jane Lynch plays a character that posed as a therapist to write about kids from broken homes in a bestselling book. Adam Scott plays Carter and Jessica Alba plays Michelle, both of which have experiences profiled in the book. Amy Poehler (Adam Scott's "Parks and Rec" co-star!) plays his step-mother. (Got that?) They were great in the film, and I was lucky to ask Jessica and Amy a few questions on the carpet!

Speaking of bestseller books, I have no doubt in my mind that Jessica Alba's new book on living a healthier, cleaner life, The Honest Life, will be a major hit. "I had to learn the hard way from decorating a house, finding the right materials, shopping for food that is pesticide-free and with no human growth hormones," she told me about the inspiration about the book. "[I try to] eliminate as much toxic chemicals as possible. There are beauty tips and organization tips that I have learned, as well. So everything from home décor, recipe ideas, to beauty tips."
Seriously guys, what Jessica and her team over at The Honest Company are up to is AMAZ. As a big fan of their work, I had to ask what was next for the company. "We are coming out with nutrition next, which is very exciting," Jessica tells me. "We will have vitamins -- it's all organic and made in the United States. We also have a lot of surprises coming up in the summer." Ooooh.
Well this is no surprise, but Amy Poehler may be one of my favorite people on the planet. Period. As she stepped up to be interviewed we immediately connected. I fell in love, as if her philanthropic trip to Haiti wasn't enough to accomplish that! "Haiti is unbelievable. It was my first thrid-world country, and it's filled with passionate and incredible people," she told me. "It was a transformative experience. I was lucky to be a part of it. We went and visited orphanages in Haiti and worked with them, and even created programs."
From visiting orphanages to creating safe products for the whole family, I'm sure both Jessica and Amy were able to draw from their life experiences to play their emotional, family-oriented roles in "A.C.O.D." Congrats to the cast -- the film was such a hit! A+!!!
