Andrew Jenks knows a thing or two about giving back. He's also extremely hot, but that's besides the point. From a critically acclaimed documentary about the elderly at an assisted living facility to his MTV series "World Of Jenks," Andrew uses his voice -- and camera -- to tell inspiring tales of the often overlooked.
Many of you Tweeted us your 2013 resolutions and mentioned wanting to give back more. So, as part of our #2013resolution series, we recently spoke to Andrew about why giving back is important to him, and how you too can make a difference in the lives of others this year. And don't forget to catch him making an impact on the new season of "World of Jenks," premiering Monday, March 4 at 11/10c. We may or may not have exclusive clips every week....
MTV ACT: What first got you into giving back? Why is it important to you?
JENKS: My dad worked at the UN, so we traveled a lot when I was young. Made me see certain parts of the world, and I realized there were bigger things going on than making sure I was going to see the new episode of TGIF's "Boy Meets World."
ACT: How can people give back more in 2013?
JENKS: A million ways. Just make time for it. Block out a weekend.
ACT: What advice do you have for people who are looking for something to get involved with?
JENKS: Make sure you really care about it. Don't force it. There's something that strikes a cord with all of us -- in different ways -- so it doesn't have to be hard or "work."
ACT: What advice do you have for people who want to start their own initiative?
JENKS: Just do it. When I was 19, I wanted to make a documentary about living in a nursing home. My teachers and others said it was a terrible idea. So I bought a couple of cameras and just moved in with a couple friends. We were very lucky to sell it to HBO, and it was the first time I realized you just gotta block out the nay-sayers and go for it.
