Taylor Swift, One Direction, and "Jersey Shore"'s Ronnie and Deena have teamed up with the American Red Cross and California Earthquake Authority to ensure more people survive and recover from California's next big quake. How can sweet Taylor do that? Well, she and a number of other actors, musicians, and professional fist-pumpers are auctioning off once-in-a-lifetime experiences from which 100% of the proceeds will go towards Californian earthquake preparedness and response programs.
California has been due for a devastating earthquake for some time now. According to the 2008 United States Geological Survey, "The question is not if but when Southern California will be hit by a major earthquake – one so damaging that it will permanently change the lives and livelihoods of the region."
So how much does it cost to hang with your favorite entertainers? A trip for two meet Taylor at a concert in Ottowa, Canada, is currently going for $3,250. A meet and greet with One Direction, as well as four tickets to their LA concert, four nights at the Four Seasons hotel, and a spa day for you and three friends is running at $4,750. All April, you can browse and bid on tons of other unique celebrity experiences on The American Red Cross' website.
Every $1,000 raised will provide food and shelter to 20 people post-quake; howeverrrr, if like me, you're too broke to afford a date with a British boy band, here's a list of other inexpensive ways to help the Red Cross:
+ Give what you can. Every little bit helps. Head to The Red Cross' website to give any amount of your choosing or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.
+ Give your blood. Donated blood will save just as many, if not more, lives after an earthquake than a night with Ms. Swift. Find a blood drive near you, and bring somebody cute to hold your hand if needles make you queasy.
+ Give your time. From disaster relieve to volunteering at a blood drive, there are various ways to give your time to The Red Cross. Click the action link below to find volunteer opportunities in your area.
