The Interfraternity Council at Quinnipiac University is against people saying the "F" word. No, not the one-syllable one you yell when something heavy drops on your foot. They're against the one that's used as a homephobic slur.
The school's newspaper ran a story about this, saying a "Fraternities Against the 'F' Word" campaign has started up on the Connecticut campus. "Sororities Against the 'F' Word" quickly followed, and if a student there isn't part of a fraternity or sorority, no biggie. Their line is "I am an ally." All three slogans were put on posters and students could get their pictures taken with them, showing their support.
This has all been getting lots of followers on Facebook, too. It sounds as if something unfortunate happened -- bullying, maybe? -- shortly before this started, and that the "Fraternities Against the 'F' Word" is a student response. The paper kept talking about an incident, but wouldn't spill the beans on exactly what happened.
People talking to the newspaper said that this is being done to promote awareness and to fight stereotypes. It might even be something that other fraternities and sororities -- or any groups in general -- will take up. What do our readers at MTV Act think of all this?
Are you going to stand against the F word?
