If your thoughts have been sounding a little poetic in your head all month and you're struck by an overwhelming impulse to communicate in rhyming couplets ... do not fight the urge. Surrender to your inner iambic pentameter. It's National Poetry Month and the Mayor of NYC, of all people, is urging inner Shakespeares and Silversteins and Angelous and Seusses to shine -- to glow, even, by way of a big fat neon sign overlooking Times Square. The Poetweet contest is on.

+The Challenge
Write a poem, 140 characters or less. Keep it clean. Tweet it out, using the hashtag #NYCpoetweet.
+The Stakes
On April 26, National Poem in Your Pocket Day, one winner's work of art will be published in the daily rag Metro New York which has a readership of over 600,000 people. Oh and your poem gets prime real estate right by the Act offices -- on the MTV 44 ½ Times Square screen.
¿Prefiere a español? No hay problema. Bloomberg's office notes:
Aceptamos poemas en español también! RT @eldiariony: Te llegó la hora de exponer tu alma de poeta ow.ly/a7YO6 #nycpoetweet

Need a nudge? Try one of these classic openers:
Roses are red / violets are blue ...
How do I love thee? / Let me count the ways ...
There once was a man from Nantucket ...
... on second thought ...
