Today is World Mental Health Day. If you're interested in raising awareness about mental health issues, check out the three ways to take action below.
+ Watch "Life Continued"
Produced by Rainn Wilson's production company SoulPancake, "Life Continued: Defeating Depression" is a special airing tonight on MTV. The hour-long documentary follows two students, Sarah Virginia and Devin, as they detail their struggles with overcoming depression and finding hope in recovery. During the show, tweet uplifting messages on social media with the hashtag #lifecontinued so your followers know you're committed helping others. Make sure also you check out the "Life Continued" campaign from Love is Louder after the show airs.
You can also follow @LoveisLouder on Twitter during the special, as they will be live tweeting and retweeting users' thoughts and #lifecontinued messages.
+ Love "Half," Live Whole
According to recent studies, half of college students reported feeling so stressed they couldn't function over the past year. Thankfully, there are resources available for those struggling. If you or someone you want to learn more about how to get a better handle on your emotional wellness, check out Half Of Us, where mtvU and The Jed Foundation are working together to raise awareness about mental health issues and connect people with resources that can help.
+ Reach Out to Older Friends
The theme of this year's World Mental Health Day is "Mental health and older adults." Today, make a point to check in with your older friends and family members. They might not know where to turn for help if they're struggling, which means they might also be afraid to reach out in the first place. By asking, you're letting them know you care about their well-being and want to be there to support them.
