This Friday will be the International Day of the Girl, and this year's theme is "Innovating for Girls' Education." Kerry Washington is looking forward to the big day, and she has an awesome campaign and movie to share with ya!
The ever pro-social actress Tweeted:
When you educate girls you change the world! Join me for the Int'l Day of the Girl 10/11: http://t.co/DHfT40b06h #GirlRising

Girl Rising is a campaign for girls' education, and a documentary of the same name tells you more about its mission and inspires you to get involved. Check out the powerful trailer here:
+ Watch The Trailer For "Girl Rising."
The doc follows different girls in different countries, and shows some of the human rights abuses used against girls, like forcing them be to be child brides and not letting them get an education. But the trailer also shows how girls around the world are standing up to these abuses. At the end it lists off some of the celebrity women involved in the documentary, including Selena Gomez, Alicia Keys . . . and Kerry Washington! So she's not just Tweeting about this movement because she likes it — she loves it so much she's personally involved on multiple levels.
If you want to watch the whole movie, you can see about getting it to come to your town or school. (Talk to your teachers about watching it in school — they might be really interested!) There is also more stuff going on for the International Day of the Girl, so check out if there's an event happening near you. There's even a super special toolkit to help you get everything you need for this Friday! It's time to help girls rise everywhere.
