Ian Somerhalder just became a grandpa! You actually did read that right — his rescue dog Nietzsche has given birth to puppies!
Ian got Nietzsche recently, so it sounds like she would have already been pregnant when she was rescued. For a while he's been updating his Twitter followers on his new companion and her pregnancy, and now he can share the adorbs puppies:

While Ian's been delighting his followers with squee-worthy images, he's also used the opporturnity to talk about the importance of adopting pets and then making sure they get spayed or neutered. Before Nietzsche gave birth, Ian said on Instagram, "World please send super-positive energy to this very brave and very scared little girl [Nietzsche].THIS ignites even more,ISF's vision and the absolute necessity to finish research and distribute SAFE species-specific oral sterilization drugs for dogs and cats! Lets put our heads together and end OVER POPULATION OF THESE INCREDIBLE ANIMALS! Thank you!"
And after sharing the OMG PUPPIES!!! pic above, he gave a bit of sobering info before we all try to get our dogs to have puppies:
Nietzsche's puppies are lucky! They'll all find homes but 9,000 dogs & cats are killed in U.S. shelters each day. Please spay/neuter#adopt

Overpopulation is a major issue with cats and dogs, and one that leads to many companion animals being put to sleep, abandoned or abused. We're curious to learn more about the possibility of this oral sterilization of pets, but in the meantime you can get your pets surgically fixed at your vets, go to your local shelter and adopt a new friend, and go to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation to join his animal welfare work!
