Charity just got the royal treatment! Prince Harry is mad about giving back, and he got to show off his knowledge of Arabic while raising money for the charity Sentebale at a fundraising dinner in Dubai.
Sentebale was created by both Prince Harry and Lesotho's Prince Seeiso, and its aim is to help children in Lesotho, especially ones affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. Lesotho is a tiny country near the bottom of Africa, and almost one fourth of the adults there have HIV or AIDS. As of 2009, it came in third in terms of countries with the highest percentage of HIV/AIDS in its grownups.
Speaking to the guests at the fundraising dinner, Prince Harry said, "Your money is not being thrown in a box where you don't know where it's going. It is going into brickwork. It means a lot to us to be able to provide this opportunity to so many children."
He also spoke in Arabic to give thanks for the generous donations and wish Dubai the best of luck to host the World Expo 2020.
It might have only been one meal, but it raised more than a million dollars, so that's nothing to scoff at! The money will go toward building the Mamohato Children's Centre of Excellence, and this will in turn help the Mamohato program, which benefits children with HIV. When you see the numbers, you see why this is such an important cause and why Prince Harry is working so hard for it. Cheers!
