Today Demi Lovato is turning 21, and she's got some major born day plans! But instead of making this day about cake, balloons and presents, she's chosen to volunteer in Kenya on a Me to We Volunteer Trip.
Me to We is charity partners with Free the Children, an org we all know that Demi loves. Me to We Trips send volunteers to different parts of the world, like India and Ecuador, and Demi took friends and fam with her for the overseas visit.
During her volunteer b-day trip, the "Heart Attack" singer is working to help build a new Free the Children school. She also went on a long water walk to understand how far women have to walk daily in order to get water. Bday gurl will also get in some fun too -- by going on a sunset safari and learning how to do traditional beading. Will she make some friendship bracelets for Selena and Miley?! One can only hope!

Demi explained her birthday decision by saying, "With 21 being a milestone birthday, I wanted a memorable and meaningful way to celebrate, rather than throw a big birthday bash. I knew traveling with Me to We and volunteering with Free The Children would give me the opportunity to have a life-changing experience I would never forget, with the people closest to me."
Demi has Tweeted her excitement about going to Africa, and we're also excited to hear more about what she has going on, what she learned on her trip, and new ways she's discovered for her fans to also help out. Happiest of birthday, Demi -- you deserve the best birthday year ever!
