Do you ever feel like giving back to your community, but you don't know where to go? Or do you ever want to set up a charitable event, but you don't know where to find like-minded people? That's what GiveGab is for!
GiveGab first launched in 2011, but today it's relaunching bigger and better than ever. There are more than 1,500 nonprofits involved and about 200 colleges. When you go to their website, you can search for volunteer opportunities, events, programs . . . and even jobs and internships! This can help you zero in on stuff in your area you might not have even known about. GiveGab also partners with charities – for example, they're going to be working with 911day.org this year to help get more people involved in philanthropic events around the anniversary of 9/11.
In a way, GiveGab is kind of like the Facebook for volunteering. You create your own profile page there, keep up to date with what others are doing, and track your success in volunteering. You know how on Facebook you can see what your friends are up to in general? At GiveGab, you can see what they're specifically up to in terms of volunteer work, and it might just be work you'd want to do as well. GiveGab also gives organizations a better chance of reaching out to people, and don't be surprised if some of these orgs want to give you virtual gifts for helping out! The website is also working on a mobile app, so keep your eyes peeled for when that's ready. This is volunteerism of the future!
