Viral video star turned Nickelodeon actor Lucas Cruikshank, who you probably know as the loud-mouthed but lovable "Fred," recently came out as gay on -- you guessed it -- YouTube.

In a Q&A sesh with BFF Jennifer Veal, star of the Disney show "Jessie," the pair answered questions from Twitter followers. "I'm gay," Lucas answered when asked about his sexuality. "It feels so weird saying it on camera." The 19-year-old actor has been out to friends and family for three years, but didn't feel the need to announce it publicly, saying it felt "so awkward."
Although happy about coming out to the world, Lucas made an interesting point about having to come out at all. "How come you didn't have to make a video saying you're straight?" he asked Jennifer. Touché.
Coming out is different for everybody. Some do gradually, others go for the all-in-one, some do it loudly, and some don't say anything at all. According to the Human Rights Campaign, one "should always be in the driver's seat about how, where, when and with whom you choose to be open." Check out their Resource Guide To Coming Out if you or a friend needs the 411 on the LGBTQ.
