Fear not, "Star Wars" fans! While we may not be getting any info on J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars VII" for another year or two there has been some news on the "Star Wars Rebels" front. The latest CGI-animated "Star Wars" series, announced back in May and set to premiere next fall on Disney XD, is said to take place during the two decade break between "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Episode IV: A New Hope."
Last weekend, at the Star Wars Celebration in Germany, a new logo for the series was revealed in addition to a few concept sketches inspired by Ralph McQuarrie. This is all very exciting, but not quite as exciting as what's to come in the newest "Star Wars" trilogy; i.e. the possibility of being introduced to Han and Leia's daughter, Jaina Solo, if Abrams and crew skew closer to the Expanded Universe.
Who?
Born the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa, Jaina Solo was lucky enough to inherit both her father's knowledge of mechanics and her mother's Force sensitivity. She is the eldest of three children, with her brothers being Jacen and Anakin Solo. As a result of her inclination for the Force, Jaina is taken in by the Jedi academy. Needless to say, she breezes through her Jedi training with ease.
In addition to being a skilled Jedi, Jaina also possesses her father's natural piloting abilities. Eventually, she even goes on to join the New Republic military as a pilot in Rogue Squadron, which she would later become the leader of alongside her twin brother, Jacen.
Why?
One of the breakout characters of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, Jaina actually plays an integral role in the Second Galactic Civil War. After all, she is both an incredible pilot and a Jedi master. Not to mention the fact that she is the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia. Come to think of it, it'd actually be criminal not to have her in the new trilogy!
How?
With Jaina, the question isn't how so much as it is in what capacity? Clearly, having Jaina featured in the new trilogy would be a piece of cake. In the past, she and her brother have actually been rumored to have important roles in the new "Star Wars" trilogy. In actuality, the only thing left to be figured out is whether Jaina would have a starring role in the upcoming films or they create a character from scratch.
