Last week, youth representatives from around the world gathered at Roger Williams University to attend a leadership summit hosted by Plan International USA.

The program, YUGA (Youth United for Global Action and Awareness), provided training and gave reps the leadership skills to take action on world issues. The youth involved worked together on plans to take action and lead campaigns in their neighborhoods surrounding education, economic security, water and sanitation, health and sexual health, emergencies, protection, and child participation.

One workshop, lead by Focal Point Global, focused on child trafficking and came up with policy recommendations. They also learned "transmedia" campaign strategies to draw attention to their countries' issues.

The YUGA blog states the whole delegation attended Malala Day at the United Nations Headquarters earlier this month on July 12, noting, "a whole delegation had just participated in a Youth Takeover of the United Nations for #MalalaDay, and they were full of information. Youth from Germany, Haiti, Indonesia, Norway, and Sierra Leone all shared their 'lessons learned' from their campaigns–and together, we developed as activists."
