Katy Perry has never been one to hold back fashion-wise, and that was certainly true when she stepped out in a plaid ensemble that she may as well have pulled straight out of Austin Powers' closet. We could argue all day about who wore it better, but we're more interested in who is making a bigger difference in the world.

Katy's fashion sense may be out there, but she's as down to Earth as they come. The "Firework" singer recently traveled to Madagascar with UNICEF, where she met with schoolchildren and teachers. Three out of four Malagasy kids live in poverty, and only three out of ten make it through school. Katy called her trip to Madagascar "life changing." "In less than one week here in Madagascar, I went from crowded city slums to the most remote villages and my eyes were opened wide by the incredible need for a healthy life -- nutrition, sanitation, and protection against rape and abuse -- which UNICEF is stepping in to help provide," she said.
