Did you know that one in two sexually active people will get an STD by the time their 25th birthday rolls around? That's why April is STD Awareness Month -- to spread awareness about protection, testing, treating and curing STDs.
It's Your (Sex) Life can answer your Q's about sex, including what works and what doesn't for protection. For example, (and this is important) condoms and female condoms are the only forms of protection that can work both as birth control and as a way to prevent you from getting STDs. If you've already had sex, Get Yourself Tested (GYT) is here to encourage you to get tested so you know your status. A large number of people who have STDs don't realize it because the symptoms having shown up yet. In fact, one in five people with HIV doesn't know they have it. And if someone with an STD is having unprotected sex, they risk passing it on.
Don't know where to go? Just plug your zip in at the GYT site, or text it to GYTNOW, and you'll be supplied with your closest testing center. Check out It's Your (Sex) Life and GYT to keep yourself protected, and come back to MTV Act for more STD Awareness Month updates throughout April.
