It may have taken a year worth of waiting, but when "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" finally did arrive this past week, it came with a bang.
The action sequel, which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Channing Tatum for all of 15 minutes, took in a truly impressive $132 million worldwide, with $50 million of that coming from the good old U.S. of A. The debut made for the second best Easter opening ever. Returns on "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" were so good, in fact, that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has already announced plans for a third movie.
The other major release of the week, Stephenie Meyer's "The Host," did not fare so well. The sci-fi adaptation took in only $11 million, good enough for just a sixth place finish, behind "Oz the Great and Powerful," now in its fourth week at theaters.
