The would-be "Prometheus 2" hasn't exactly been given the official green light, but by the time it does get the go-ahead, don't be surprised to learn that one key player from the original film isn't coming back for seconds.
Collider recently spoke to Damon Lindelof—who co-wrote and helped to produce "Prometheus"—at a "Star Trek Into Darkness" press event and learned that the writer has no intentions to return for the follow-up to Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi epic. Aside from having a packed schedule, Lindelof cited his "single-minded creativity" as one of the reasons behind his departure from the potential franchise.
"The thing about 'Prometheus' was it was a rewrite. Jon Spaihts wrote a script and I rewrote it. And still it was a year of my life that I spent on 'Prometheus,' kind of all in. The idea of building a sequel to it—from the ground up this time—with Ridley is tremendously exciting," Lindelof said. "But at the same time, I was like, 'Well that's probably going to be two years of my life.' I can't do what J.J. [Abrams] does. I don't have the capability. I'm usually very single-minded creatively. I can only be working on one thing at a time."
Fair enough. But the news may not come as much of a blow to many, considering that Lindelof was the object of resounding fanboy blame for penning what some thought was a confusing, plot-hole-filled script—one that was originally drafted by Spaihts, whose name hasn't been mentioned in light of recent news that Fox may be looking for writers to replace Lindelof.
We do know that stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are expected to reprise their roles for the sequel, which is rumored to play in theaters in 2014 or 2015. And while he won't be writing "Prometheus 2,"
