Bimonthly, we'll take an artist on the rise on the MTV Music Meter and, to help you discover them a little more, detail some of their philanthropic tendencies -- from Mika to Ellie Goulding. This week: Big Sean.

Big Sean knows the importance of helping little kids. At a recent show, the rapper announced the launch of the Sean Anderson Foundation, a charity aimed at helping disadvantaged youth in Detroit, Michigan.

Unlike many artists who play the rebellious card, Detroit native Big Sean is proud of his upbringing and education. He graduated high school with a 3.7 GPA, and had near a full ride to Michigan State University before Kanye West signed him. "The mission of the Sean Anderson Foundation is to assist in the education, health, safety and well-being of Detroit area school-aged youth," Sean said. "I want to use my awareness to improve the situations in our school systems in particular. Many schools in Detroit have been closing or are in danger of closing. My school played an integral part of making me the man I am today and without that education and extra care, I don't know where I would be today."

This isn't the first time Big Sean has worked with Detroit schools. This May, he rewarded the high school with the best attendance by acting as principal for a day. "Showing up to school, all day, every day, is one of the most important things students can do to reach their educational goals and to go on to success later in life," Sean said about the event, proving once again why he is such a positive role model.
