Today's a good day for fans of "The Hobbit." Not only are there a deluge of behind-the-scenes photos that have been dumped onto the web, but we've also got our first listen at a great song of the "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" soundtrack.
First, the images. Comic Book Movie has compiled more than 150 behind-the-scenes photos for "The Hobbit," many of which were taken from "The Hobbit Movies" iPhone app. Director Peter Jackson has clearly taken the more is better approach here, and we aren't complaining at all.
Meanwhile, songwriter Neil Finn recorded a ballad called "Song of the Lonely Mountain" in conjunction with Jackson. The song, which you can listen to at Rolling Stone, will be a part of the "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" soundtrack, which is due out on December 11.
"'The Song of the Lonely Mountain' was developed from a dark and mysterious theme which the dwarves sing early in the movie. After some days of mining underground (actually, in Peters office) I emerged with the song, then set about recording it with my sons Elroy and Liam," Finn told the magazine. "Dave Fridmann came in at the end with a bold mix. He seemed to respond well to my demands for 'more anvil!' Pop music needs more anvil!"
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is due in theaters on December 14. It will be followed by "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" on December 13, 2013 and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" on July 18, 2014.
