What would a Quentin Tarantino movie be without "life, liberty and the pursuit of vengeance"? It likely wouldn't be anywhere near as good as "Django Unchained" is shaping up to be.
A new poster for the flick touts that fantastic headline and also features leading men Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio -- all in black and white -- surrounded by a red blood spatter. That bodes well for the trajectory of this movie, right?
When we caught up with Foxx at Comic-Con, he told us that he wanted the part of Django from the first time he heard about it, though at the time it was taken by Will Smith. Once Smith dropped from the project, Foxx met with Tarantino and knew this film was a match made in R-rated heaven.
"When I met him, I talked about my experiences growing up, me growing up in the South, and the words that I read on the page weren't so knee-jerk-ish for me, because these are things that people say in the South," he said of the film's content. "It's not to say that anybody's good or bad in the South. It's just the way things are and were back then."
"Django Unchained" follows Django (Foxx) as he seeks to rescue his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from the men who captured her. He teams up with Dr. King Schultz (Waltz), a bounty hunter who enlists him to help him catch his quarry before they go on to find Django's wife. Their hunt leads them to a plantation called "Candyland," run by the delightfully villainous Calvin Candie (DiCaprio). Based on what we know about the project, things spiral quickly out of control from that point onwards. The film is due in theaters on Christmas Day.
