Since the end of last year, Steven Soderbergh has been riding an incredibly productive hot streak that included the underrated "Contagion," the kickass "Haywire," and the surprise hit "Magic Mike." That's exactly what makes his claims of retiring after this year so unfortunate. It also doesn't help that the trailer for his "final" theatrical release, "Side Effects," looks so good.
The psychological thriller comes from the mind of writer Scott Z. Burns, a recent Soderbergh collaborator, who also wrote "Contagion," and stars Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
In the film, Mara stars as Emily Hawkins, a woman whose husband (Tatum) will soon be getting out of prison. To cope with the change, she turns to a prescription drug, which turns out to have some unexpected—umm—side effects.
