A lot of us are experiencing extreme weather right now with the onset of Hurricane Sandy, and we want to make sure you all stay safe. We've put together a list of things you can do to help, whether you're in Sandy's path or not.
+ Be Safe
If you're in Sandy's path, pay attention to what's going on and act accordingly. Many don't have power -- to pass on the info especially to those who may be without it. Officials say it's best and safest for you to hunker down and stay inside if your home is safe now that the worst has passed. It other places struggling after the storm, it might be best if you get out. Listen to the news and what officials are saying is best for you depending on your area. Learn more at ready.gov.
+ Help the Red Cross
As expected, the Red Cross is on this. You can give a special donation to the Red Cross to specifically help. If you're old enough (age requirements vary by state), you might want to think about blood and platelet donations. Check out the blood donations part of their site to see if there's a place near you to donate. Red Cross centers across the city are also looking for volunteers.
+ Text to Donate $10
To donate to the Red Cross, text REDCROSS to 90999. Text HUMANE to 80888 to help the American Humane Association (because animals will need help during the storm, too, of course). You can also text UWHC to 52000 in order to send money to United Way of Hudson County, N.J. Each time you do this, you will donate $10. Standard rates apply.
