Yesterday Katy Perry had her kick-ass 28th birthday, and she let her 28 million Twitter followers know what she wanted for her big day. Not gifts or cake or all 28 million Tweeps trending her big day -- she's asking her legions of fans to give to charity in lieu of presents.
Katy, who will be a "Teenage Dream" no matter what her age, Tweeted:
OMG! RT @david_lynch: Dear Twitter Friends! It's @katyperry 's birthday & she requested donations to the @lynchfoundation in lieu of gifts.

The David Lynch Foundation uses mediation to help "at-risk populations such as underserved inner-city students; veterans with PTSD and their families; American Indians suffering from diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high suicide rates; homeless men participating in reentry programs striving to overcome addictions; and incarcerated juveniles and adults."
Earlier Katy also mentioned where she wanted her b-day donations to go, and linked to a site explaining why this was her organization of choice:
Transcendental meditation changed my life. For my birthday I would love to pay it forward. In lieu of gifts, donate bit.ly/TDohFR

Katy is a big believer Transcendental Meditation and says that it is "the best thing I have ever done to help bring more creativity, positive energy and peace to my life. When I'm tired, stressed, anxious or depressed, I meditate, and it clears my mind, and makes me feel relaxed and happier."
Ms. Perry is far from the only person who's credited meditation to helping them in their lives. Stumping for the foundation, she says that she wants donations made because they can help people suffering from post-traumatic stress. The website suggests donation amounts like $10 or $25, but you can also pick your own amount. We talked yesterday about how Katy's making a diff in her life, and she's still at it!
