Adam Sandler is going to be getting his spoof on in his next movie.
Deadline is reporting that Sandler is working on a comedy western for Paramount Pictures called "Ridiculous 6." Though the plot hasn't been announced, we can guess the direction the film is headed in based on its title. It might not be quite as catchy, but this film seems to be a riff off "The Magnificent Seven." It will start shooting in April 2013.
That film, of course, is a remake of the Akira Kurosawa movie "Seven Samurai." To speak generally, both projects follow a group of seven warriors (samurai in "Seven Samurai," gunmen in "Magnificent Seven") who are hired by a group of villagers to protect them from invading bandits. It's an iconic tale, but it's easy to see how Sandler could spin it into a comedy. At least it's a bit different than what he's done recently, since he hasn't played a character much different than his Adam Sandler persona since 2008's "You Don't Mess with the Zohan."
Next year, Sandler is starring in "Grown Ups 2," the sequel to his 2010 film "Grown Ups." He's at the point in his career where he can gather together many of his comedian friends to star in movies together like he did in the "Grown Ups" movies. Though "Ridiculous 6" is, for lack of a better word, a ridiculous title, it could be fun to see a "Grown Ups"-style cast come together for the project. We'd love to see Kevin James and Rob Schneider in a pair of chaps.
