You thought what happened to Ned was bad? Trust me, "Game of Thrones" fans, you haven't seen anything yet — but you're about to.

Westeros.org reports that the "Thrones" casting department has put out a call for extras for a night shoot on October 12 and full availability on October 15 through 19. The extras they're seeking are male-only cellists and male and leg-only amputees. The latter group needs to be comfortable with prosthetics that will make their legs look newly severed.

Those details might sound like the par-for-the-course ugliness fans of "Thrones" have come to love and expect over the years. But "A Song of Ice and Fire" readers know better. Those readers know all too well that we're finally here; the moment we've been dreading since "Thrones" went into production.

Vague discussion of major spoilers are ahead.

By all accounts, it appears as though "Thrones" is about to start shooting the Red Wedding. Without spoiling exactly what the Red Wedding is, let's just say it's one of the most important and most devastating moments in the entire "Ice and Fire" saga and leave it at that. Devoted readers have wondered among themselves whether or not the "Thrones" producers have the stones to go the full distance with the Red Wedding; even for HBO, the events that transpire here are risky enough to question the network's ability to fully "go there." (There's one violent image in particular that the reader never sees, only hears about, that would make for the most-talked about television event this side of the "Breaking Bad" season four finale; but even a network as brave as HBO might not be willing to pull that particular trigger.)

"Thrones" has deviated from the source material in minor and major ways in the past; the entire House of the Undying sequence is a large departure from what transpires in "A Clash of Kings," and is a fairly serious sore point for sticklers for the books. But of all the scenes from the books that come loaded with high expectations, nothing compares to the Red Wedding. This is a make-or-break moment for staunch fans of the novels, and certainly one for show-only viewers, whether they know it or not.

It's too early to know how the event will play out. But the fact that the event is in-progress at all has this GRRM devotee on the edge of his seat.
