Still haven't registered? Get on it! Today's the most important day all year for voter registration. Seventeen states have their deadlines today, and among them are ones that will decide the presidential election, feature brutal congressional contests, or have measures on the ballot that will seriously impact life there in the decades to come.
Colorado, Florida and Ohio all have their deadlines today. If you live there, your vote will be key in the Obama-Romney decision. These battleground states are almost certain to be close calls on November 6, and recent history shows that even a few votes could tilt the scale in the other direction. And votes in Indiana, Montana, Arizona and Ohio will help decide the outcomes of too-close-to-call Senate races. These races will decide where Congress, the biggest check on the President's power, stands after November 6, and will usher in a new generation of politicians to represent us.
Voters in other states on today's list face choices on the ballot that will have huge effects after the election. A ballot measure in Michigan may decide the future of unions in that state, and in Georgia voters will get to decide whether to make it easier to set up charter schools.
