When it was announced that Christina Hendricks would star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, it seemed like a match made in heaven. But it turns out that it was actually a match made in something much more macabre, as we've since learned that the film, "How to Catch a Monster," is fairly surreal.
Hendricks recently caught up with Vulture to talk about the movie. In the interview, she elaborated on the journey she and her onscreen sons will go on and dished on the sexy job her character has.
"[I play a single mother] supporting two children and trying to provide a home for them and a place of comfort in a continuously harder place to be," she said. "And I find myself working in this very surreal club that gets me into a sort of predicament, and in the meantime, these boys are off on their own adventures and they discover this underground city."
When Vulture pressed the issue, Hendricks finally ceded that she works at a "fetish club."
These sound like big ideas for a first time director to take on, and we can't wait to find out more about the flick as it heads into its 2013 production start date. Hendricks said that Gosling is already hard at work in pre-production.
"I don't know what the exact budget is, but I think we've got a nice amount," she said. "I'm sure it will be incredibly clever, and Ryan already has storyboards and pictures of neighborhoods and homes, and he's already collecting music for it ... when you read it, it gives you the feeling, maybe, of a memory. Something from your childhood that you can't really pinpoint."
As for the news that he had written the role in "How to Catch a Monster" specifically for her, Hendricks said, "His first big film, and he could have gotten anyone! It was very heartwarming and the biggest compliment ever."
