The 2012 London Olympics are really going strong as amazing athletes from all over the world compete. Actress Gabrielle Union is especially psyched to see all the incredible female athletes out there, and she has every reason to be impressed by them.

Countless eyes were glued to the TV screen on Thursday as the US and Japanese teams squared off in women's soccer. Both teams gave it their best and rocked, and in the end the US team won and got their third straight Olympic gold medal. Get it, gurls!

The opening ceremony had 60,000 people attending, and that sure as heck isn't a number to sniff at. Still, on Wednesday word got out that 83,000 tixs had been sold to watch the women's soccer game. That's def. great to hear for anyone who wants to get more girls in the game.

Once girls reach high school they drop out of sports at a higher rate than boys, and groups like the Women's Sports Foundation want to stop that from happening. Sports can lead to physical fitness, higher self-esteem and experiences of teamwork and companionship. The Women's Sport Foundation would like to see more strong athletic women as role models for young girls, and they're getting their wish with the Olympics.

Gabrielle, who recently played Rapper or Republican for us, is thrilled to see the strides being made. Fellow actress Jessica Biel also Tweeted her love of seeing strong female athletes. And 83,000 people -- plus the millions watching on their TV sets -- feel the same way. Goal!
