Lots of people want dating advice, but a proposed dating advice book on Kickstarter has people up in arms. The book recommends that men sexually assault women, and Sophia Bush, who is passionate about women's rights, shared the petition asking Kickstater not to fund the book.

"Above the Game: A Guide to Getting Awesome with Women," which is from Ken Hoinsky, needed to earn at least $2,000 on Kickstarter in order to be funded. It brought in more than $16,000, which would usually mean the project would receive the money and get to go forward. However, Kickstarter has said in its Terms of Use that it will not cover anything that's abusive. The book advises men, "Don't ask for permission. Be dominant." It tells men to force a woman to touch him against her will, saying, "Remember, she is letting you do this because you have established yourself as a LEADER. Don't ask for permission."

It is never okay to touch another person without their permission, just as it's never okay to force a person to touch someone else. Earlier today Kickstarter issued a statement, saying, "This morning, material that a project creator posted on Reddit earlier this year was brought to our and the public's attention just hours before the project's deadline. Some of this material is abhorrent and inconsistent with our values as people and as an organization. Based on our current guidelines, however, the material on Reddit did not warrant the irreversible action of canceling the project."

This doesn't mean it's over, though, and signing Sophia's petition might show Kickstarter how serious the situation is. There's lots of good advice about dating out there, but anything that demeans women is not it.
