Last night's TrevorLIVE annual event in NYC brought on a collaboration of entertainers and advocates in support of the organization's lifesaving work for LGBT youth and I was there to ask the stars about...music!
Attendees included "American Idol" alum Jessica Sanchez, Gabourey Sidibe, Olivia Thirlby and of course, major LGBT supporters Snooki and JWoww. The incredible event was hosted by none other than Jane Lynch, who we all know brought the poses, smiles and the sangin'.
Every day, the Trevor Project provides suicide prevention services through a confidential lifeline, in-school workshops, online resources and advocacy. Guests shared endless stories on the importance on how we could save young lives and how, if it's a family member, friend or coworker in need of this assistance -- we must take a stand!
I received all smiles on the red carpet as I asked the question, "What's your favorite pride song?" I was surprised by most responses and surely agreed with them all! A big hit was Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." As DJ Kiss put it, "No matter what you say, your opinion of me is not important. I was born this way". When catching up with Jessica Sanchez, she mentioned that her song "Right To Fall" which she performed live at the event would be her #1 pride song. Everything Donna Summer & Whitney Houston were popular on the list as well. Of course, these divas stay on top! Check out what other celebs had to say:
What's Your Favorite Pride Song?
"You know as strange as it is, 'This Must Be the Place,' by the Talking Heads. It's a song about finding your home." - Olivia Thirlby
"Number one pride song? Hmmm...well I have to cheat a little bit and say on my new debut album, I have a song called 'Right to Fall' and it's about gay rights." - Jessica Sanchez
"I guess an easy one is anything by Lady Gaga really, like what are the pride songs...I think...I really like...there's a song, it's sort of old, by Anastacia called 'One Day in Your Life'...I like that one a lot." - Gabourey Sidibe
"Pride song? Spice Girls." - Snooki as she hums "Spice up your life"
"Icona Pop's 'I Love It.' No matter how much we listen to it with our show it's like you're over it but it's so awesome." - JWOWW
"Aretha Franklin's 'A Deeper Love.'" - actor and LGBT activist Wilson Cruz
"Pride song? I'm gonna go with 'Pride (In the Name of Love)' by U2." - "The Walking Dead" actor Dallas Roberts
