Yesterday, Jenny from the Block became Jenny from Hollywood. That's because Jennifer Lopez was the recipient of the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! But to us, she's been a philanthropy star for yearssss. Don't believe us? Here's a highlight of five ways she's given back.
+ Fighting AIDS
Next week is National HIV Testing Day, and just the other day JLo was honored at the The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR)'s Inspiration Gala for her work on the fight again HIV/AIDS. "Change can happen when we come together," she Tweeted about the event.
+ Women's Rights
At the very beginning of the month, Jennifer joined Beyoncé and others for the Sound of Change concert in London. The concert came to us thanks to Chime for Change, which furthers women's rights in the areas of Health, Justice and Education. The event raised $4.3 million in tix sales, and you've got JLo in part to thank for those amazing numbers!
+ Hurricane Sandy
You know Jennifer can dance, but did you know she can also play football? Last year, after finishing up her world tour, she took part in a charity football game. The money went to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. And while Mom was busy throwing the ball, the twins were selling lemonade for charity. Kindness runs in the family!
+ Political Power
During the 2012 election Jennifer encouraged people to get out and vote, especially women. "I grew up with a strong, hardworking mom and dad and two brilliant sisters,"she said. "I learned that from an early age that when women come together, there's nothing that we can't do." Because when you vote, you're putting your voice out there!
+ Lopez Family Foundation
Jennifer's kids aren't the only members of her family who are big on helping out. JLo and her sis Lynda came together for the Lopez Family Foundation, which gets health care and health education to women and children who might not be able to afford them otherwise. Her great work here even got her a humanitarian award!
