Supernatural comic book series "Locke & Key" was being eyed for a TV adaptation, but word from THR indicates the project is now headed to the big screen. Joe Hill — who also happens to be Stephen King's son and just released a new novel, "NOS4A2" — wrote the series, which centers on the Locke children. After their father is brutally murdered, the family moves into their ancestral home, the Keyhouse. They discover the house contains secrets and magical keys that unlock incredible powers.
But there is a dark force lurking there that wants the family to open a door that could destroy everything good in their world. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Bobby Cohen will produce the adaptation with Ted Adams, CEO and publisher of IDW Publishing, the company behind the comic book. People like Steven Spielberg have been fighting to get the project adapted for the past several years. A TV pilot was created, with Nick Stahl ("Carnivàle") and Miranda Otto ("The Lord of the Rings") starring and Mark Romanek directing, which was met with positive reviews from San Diego Comic-Con. Can they keep the momentum going after so many struggles?
'Hemlock Grove' Will Return for a Second Season
Fans of Eli Roth's small-town gothic thriller "Hemlock Grove" will be pleased to know that the series will return to Netflix for a second season. Based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, "Hemlock Grove" saw an impressive viewership during its opening weekend on the streaming service. "The worldwide fan response to 'Hemlock Grove' was phenomenal," Roth said in a new press release. "Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season One was just a warmup for what we have in store for Season Two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected." Hey, you don't need to twist our arm. Sold! Charles H. (Chic) Eglee ("Dexter," "The Walking Dead," "The Shield") joins the crew as an executive producer for 10 episodes that go into production later this year. The series starred Famke Janssen ("X-Men"), Bill Skarsgard ("Simon & The Oaks"), Landon Liboiron ("Terra Nova"), Freya Tingley ("X: Night of Vengeance"), and Dougray Scott ("Mission Impossible II"). Expect a reunion for 2014.
'Saw' Team Working on a "Supernatural Action Film"
"Saw" screenwriting buddies Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are up for their next project, a supernatural tale called "Outliers." The duo have been branching out in the film world, landing gigs for "God of War," "Rise," and a rewrite of Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim." Director David Karlak will join them for his supernatural action film, "Outliers." We don't know much more than that at this point, but when the words "supernatural" and "action" are involved, you have our attention. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
