With appearances and performances to promote her upcoming album release, Selena Gomez might be one of the busiest twenty-somethings on the planet. Yesterday, however, the singer took a break from her crazy schedule to tell her fans to "Come and Get It." And by "it" she means something important that UNICEF is working on -- helping kids with disabilities.

That's right! Selena is once again using her star power to help children around the world!

The UNICEF Ambassador tweeted:

Each year UNICEF releases the report which "closely examines a key issue affecting children." This year's edition focuses on children with disabilities. According to UNICEF, there are at least 93 million children aged 14 or younger around the world living with a moderate or severe disability. Instead of focusing on the disability, however, UNICEF is urging countries to focus on what the children have to offer. Abid Aslam, the editor of the report, explained that children who have disabilities "have dreams…the drive to fulfill those dreams." When the children were given a fair chance, they were able to contribute to the "vitality of their families and their community." On the other hand, if countries don't step up and advocate for these children, they're extremely vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

So what can we do to help protect children around the world living with disabilities? Right now countries all over the world are deciding whether or not to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). You can ask your Senator to ratify the CRPD when the debate comes up later this year. By sending this message, you're letting our government know that you support the rights of all humans, including those with disabilities.
